Luxury HOME THEATER DESIGNER
Maria is a certified Interior Designer, NCIDQ National Council Interior Designer Qualification, a member of APIDQ, Association professionnelle des designers d’intérieur du Québec and IDC, Interior Designers of Canada.
Maria is a dual citizen: American by birth and Canadian by choice. She began her Design studies in San Francisco, California, at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and continued them in Montreal, Canada where she obtained her second degree. When she relocated to Montreal in 1985, she started her profession as a Retail Designer.
The turning point for her was in the year 2000, when she designed her first Luxury Home Theater in her own custom home.
The love for this dedicated room made her pivot her career from being a Retail Designer to learning a new profession, Home Theater Design.
She was highly influenced by Theo Kalomirakis, his designs and his successes.
This relevant background, customizing anything, allows Maria to understand the requirements and resources to design any type of exclusive project. Maria has always been extremely dedicated, professional and a talented designer.
She is responsible, “hands on” and detail-oriented. Her passion for the design and construction fields reflects in the success of her projects from beginning to end.
“I’m driven by fulfilling a client’s vison and finalizing a Luxury Home Theater design that exceeds expectations.” – Maria Deschamps
"Due to Maria's extremely driven work ethics and natural ability to sense harmony between architecture, details and theater design, I was compelled to ask if she would complement our team with her experience. With a resounding yes, here we are, and I am confident you will enjoy working with her as much as I do." ~TK
MY CONCEPTS ON DESIGN
Location! Location! Location! An ideal room for a dedicated theater is one with no natural light and a decent ceiling height. This way the projector will attain the highest level of contrast. A decent ceiling height is necessary so we can plan for each person to have an unobstructed view of the screen; a perfect viewing angle. We can work with any size room, but it’s preferable to have at least 500 square feet. Size matters!
Everyone must have a sweet spot! Quality, comfortable, well-positioned seating is important for both the visual and audio effects in a private theater. Selecting the perfect materials to balance the audio highs and lows is of utmost importance. To avoid poor reverberation times hard materials should be used sparingly; these surfaces are brick, tile, and glass. Using acoustic treatments, stretch fabrics and isolation materials are paramount.
In order to set the right atmosphere a combination of technology, lighting and visual aesthetics are used. We work with the best integrators to select equipment; together we plan the ultimate location for everything. The speakers and equipment may be hidden from the eye but you will know it’s there! Lighting is key and is strategically selected and placed. I love designing with indirect lighting because it stimulates our senses.
