HOME THEATER ACOUSTIC DESIGN
Earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, with an emphasis in Acoustics and Music.
With a great-grandfather that worked on some of Europe’s finest concert halls and a grandfather who was a concert pianist and violinist that played for the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, Steve was destined to make his mark in the field of luxury home theater acoustics.
As the CEO and Principal Consultant of SH Acoustics, he now has more than thirty years of residential and commercial experience and has led the acoustic/audio design for a wide range of award-winning projects including:
The Smithsonian African American Museum (DC), Carnegie’s Zankel Hall (NYC) and the Las Vegas Raiders Headquarters and Broadcast Complex.
Steve is equally proud of his acoustic designs for hundreds of home theaters, media rooms, 2-channel listening rooms and some the most unique and unexpected spaces to be found in luxury homes throughout the world.
He has collaborated withTheo Kalomirakis since the late 1990s on over two dozen ultra-high end private theaters.
Steve is often sought out as an industry expert and has been invited to speak at seminars and conventions all over the world. In his free time, Steve enjoys playing keyboards in several local CT groups, mixing live sound, boxing and pretending to be better than he actually is at basketball and tennis.
“The ‘sound’ of a theater is not something that should draw unnecessary attention to itself. It should blend seamlessly as part of the overall experience. In other words, when I do my job well, no one notices!” ~Steve Haas
“Working with Theo for over two decades on some of the most fantastic theaters in the world has been a joy for many reasons. First and foremost, Theo and I truly share the passion to be the very best at what we do, and we both always look for ways in our designs to break new ground. It has led to, not only a long-lasting professional relationship, but also a personal friendship as well.”
